I've often wondered why the success rate within the network marketing industry is alarmingly low.
Statistics show that if you make a whopping $200 a month, you are in the top 5% income earners in the industry. In addition, only 3% of the networkers are making any real money. The 97% of the networkers who aren't seeing any real cash flow are actually the ones who are supporting the 3% who do make money.
Before any of us jump to any conclusions, the industry isn't necessarily at fault. I wouldn't even go as far as to say that the representatives of the industry are at fault either. We must all take responsibility for our own failures and success.
I have recently been introduced to what I believe to be contributing elements to the outcome of our adventure in network marketing.
Each of us is born with a particular personality. I can personally attest to the fact that my children had a distinct personality as babies and I can still see that personality now as they have grown up into their teen years. Our personality will greatly effect how we approach others and should also be considered prior to joining a MLM or Network Marketing company.
There is a lot of literature on the market today regarding four distinct personality types. If you haven't already done so, I recommend doing some research and heading towards your local bookstore to begin learning the various personality types and applying that knowledge to your business. It will change the way you approach people and give you a greater understanding of how your personality will shape how you conduct your business.
These various personality types have been neatly categorized by colors. The colors are blue, green, yellow and red. Determining your personality type will greatly assist you in how you speak with new prospects and which company you decide to join.
The yellow personality types are generally dependable, patient and nurturing. Their voices are typically soft and gentle. They are open, yet indirect. When you ask them a question they will use as few words as possible, but will always be honest with you. The yellows are caretakers and have a tendency to place themselves last so that everyone else is taken care of. Concerning leadership, yellows are quite happy to follow others. They based life on helping others, working together as a team, place family as a priority and build relationships. They are great communicators. In relationship to business, yellow personality types will not respond well to pushy salesmen and will avoid conflict at all cost. The yellows encompass about 35% of the population.
The green personality types are relatively conservative dressers, articulate in nature, organized and great planners. Their voices are generally soft and polite. The green personality types are indirect and self-contained. This means that when you ask them a question they will not answer you immediately. They must think about the question before they will give you an answer. These people are very concerned about data and have a tendency to over think things to the point of never getting anything done. They appear to be very lonely people and often times come across as being depressed. A green personality type will not respond well to pushy salesmen or a lack of facts. These people love their data and consider if fun to read through charts, graphs and contracts. The greens encompass about 35% of the population.
It's all about the 'fun' for the blue personality types. These people are casual dressers with a flashy flare. For instance, it's all about the party for them so they will most likely be found wearing the Hawaiian shirt. Blues are the life of the party. They are loud and vibrant speakers and will always attract a crowd. Everyone is their friend and they are great communicators. The blues are open, yet direct. These personality types are very creative, yet strong on family and relationships. They are spontaneous buyers and often suffer from buyers remorse. They are fast and exciting. They dislike being 'sold', don't necessarily want to hear the facts and details. The blues represent about 15% of the population.
The red personalities are very direct and rather impersonal. They don't care about the small talk and while they are fast talkers, they are not always great listeners. They are flashy dressers and can be found wearing high end designer clothing. These people are all about the money and don't have any interest in building relationships. They can be found in the large corporate chair sitting down behind the desk while looking down at others who are sitting across from them in the small chair. These people are salespeople and expect others to sell them. These are the CEO's and the managers of the company. While they make great recruiters and salespeople, they are not great mentors. They have a great appreciation for themselves. Reds make up approximately 15% of the population.
If you are a yellow, blue or green personality you are not driven by recruiting and sales. Remember, this makes a combined total of 85% of the population. If you are involved with a company that required recruiting and sales to receive compensation, you will most likely be unsuccessful and burn out quickly. Reds do very well with this type of company and will be found at the top of the 3% while the yellows, greens and blues comprise the 97% of the organization. Remember, reds only encompass 15% of the population and certainly, not all of them are in network marketing.
All things considered, you may be able to see why not everyone is going to experience the same level of success in network marketing. Depending upon the compensation plan of your particular company, you may be driven to conduct your business in a way that does not align with your personality type. The results will most likely be frustrating to say the least.
Do your research. Take the test and figure out what your personality type is prior to joining any company. Your success is important and finding a company that fits with your personality is key to your success.
